Our “Life on Track” event was held on April 6th and April 8th.  The event was a success and one that will be remembered.  An Education portion was taught by the Branson PD with statistics and information on underage drinking and the effects.  After the education portion the high school students were split into two groups…a driving portion which was with goggles that gave you the feel/simulation of someone under the influence, a course was set up for the students and those students were graded on how many “cones or “people” they hit.  The second group of students had the texting portion of the event which is a rising concern among youth and adults.  They were to use demo phones that were provided by Verizon and were asked to find a contact and then read the message they received and then to respond to that text.  100 students from the Reeds Spring and Branson schools were the participants and here are some of their responses….”oh my gosh, it was awful,” says Reeds Spring Junior Paige Leatherman.  It was hard enough just driving, but then trying to mess with the phone, it did not work at all.”  Seventeen year old Junior, Shane Corporon had some difficulty parking and seeing where to stop.  It was a successful event with a lot of fun and learning.  Craig Wescott VP/owner of The Tracks says…”obviously underage drinking can be a problem, but you put them behind the wheel of a car under the influence of drugs or alcohol, there can be problems.  We wanted to let them experience that in a safe environment.
